Job Summary/Basic Function:

Flight instructors are responsible for teaching students how to fly in a variety of settings using methods that include classroom lecture, simulators and live flight training. Flight instructors use ground-school classes both to teach students the basics of flying an aircraft and to help them prepare for the written test.
Each faculty member will deliver standardized training lessons based on the Training Course Outline provided to them. Assist in the development of individual lesson plans and implement instructional strategies to meet the objectives of each course taught and to meet the instructional guidelines specified in the course syllabi.
The faculty member must uphold the philosophy and mission of CAU while instilling positive and progressive attitudes in all students.

Essential Duties

Flight instructors develop curricula, instruct students in a classroom setting, conduct training flights, determine student proficiency, report on student progress and develop new teaching methods. Flight Instructors are responsible for training students in subjects such as single-pilot resource management, task management, risk management, situational management aeronautical decision making, controlled flight into terrain awareness,aircraft systems, operating procedures, aircraft navigation, radio operation and aerodynamics.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicant must hold the following FAA issued certificates or ratings:
FAA issued Commercial Certificate, Certified Flight Instructor Rating (CFI & CFII), Certified Ground Instructor Certificate,500 hours of dual flight instruction given in fixed wing aircraft, A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from a four-year accredited college or university in an aviation related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university in an aviation related field.
Experience teaching at a Part 141 pilot school, instructional time in an approved FAA simulator/flight training device. Multi Engine Instructor, MEI, rating.

Work Hours:

Varies depending on needs of the student. Some night time flying hours will be required to allow students to complete their night time flight requirements.
